Cornwell, a private first class, joined the Marine Corps in August 1966 and was assigned to Company D of the 1st Battalion, 4th Marines, 3rd Marine Division in Viet Nam in April 1967. A Note from The Virtual Wall The 1st Battalion, 4th Marines, was among the Allied forces engaged in bitter fighting around Con Thien on 08 May 1967.
