HEADQUARTERS
1. TC 320. The following AWARDS are announced. Sergeant Douglas distinguished himself by heroic actions on 12 January 1967, in the Republic of Vietnam. His unit was participating in a search and destroy operation and was in the process of clearing enemy bunkers. Sergeant Douglas' squad discovered a bunker that was heavily booby trapped with butterfly bombs and hand grenades. With complete disregard for his own safety, Sergeant Douglas disarmed the enemy booby traps, cleared the bunker, and led a fire team into a tunnel which was discovered inside the bunker. Although the tunnel was also heavily booby trapped, Sergeant Douglas conducted a thorough search of the complex. Due to Sergeant Douglas' bravery, aggressiveness, and devotion to duty, four enemy weapons, 1,000 rounds of ammunition, and numerous enemy hand grenades and documents were captured. His actions are in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit, the 25th Infantry Division, and the United States Army. |
