16 Nov 2001 In memory of Gary Lee Farley, who gave his life in service to our country on Nov. 12, 1967 in Phuoc Long, South Vietnam. Gary is the son of Don and Bertha Farley of Ravenna, Ohio. His tour of duty started on April 15, 1967. Gary was a mechanic at home before he joined the service and continued as a mechanic in the service. Gary had a girlfriend named Becky and a new car - a 1966 Ford Fairlane GT. Don & Bertha Farley at their flagpole in July 2000. They are very patriotic and fly the American and the POW/MIA flags every day. Don is a veteran of World War Two. Gary's parents stored and cared for his car for 29 years and eventually decided to sell the Fairlane. We met them at a car show and they told us about the car and about Gary. We were intrigued and interested in the car. After seeing the car and learning more of the story of Gary's short life, a special friendship with Gary's parents began and has continued to grow over the years. We purchased the car in 1996 and began showing the car in 1997. We show this car in Gary's memory and in memory of all Vietnam Veterans. Gary has a special place in our hearts and we love sharing his story with anyone who will listen. Gary's 1966 Ford Fairlane GT in front of his parents' home. Gary was raised in this home in Ravena, Ohio. We have not been to The Wall in Washington, D.C. but we have seen the Traveling Wall and were deeply moved by it. Gary's name is on Panel 29E - Line 81. This memorial is just one way we have of saying thank you to Gary Farley and all the Vietnam Veterans who served there. You are appreciated and you are not forgotten.
