02 Mar 2003 I remember George from our High School in Neffsville, Pennsylvainia. We grew up together. I am also a Marine. I never will forget the day that I came home on Leave to hear my Father say "George Myers was killed in Vietnam!" I thought I heard him wrong, I never knew you were in the Marines until that day. George, I remember you and will never forget our friendship we shared! Someday when I die and come to Heaven as you and my other Marine friends guard the gate please tell the Lord to let me in! 14 Jun 2005 The photo and this article appeared in the LANCASTER NEW ERA on March 25, 1969: 45TH COUNTY CASUALTY Manheim Twp. Marine Dies in Vietnam Action Marine Pfc. George N. Myers has become the county's 45th casualty in the Vietnam fighting since June of 1965. The 18-year-old Marine's father, Daniel Myers, 1018 Janet Ave., has received word of his son's death in action on March 19, while serving as an artilleryman with the First Marine Division. Myers' death was reported from an enemy engagement which took place six miles north of An Hoa in Quang Nam. BURIAL AT GETTYSBURG Myers' father said today that funeral arrangements will be made after his son's body arrives in the U.S. Burial is planned for Gettysburg National Cemetery. The Marine entered service last summer, and was sent to Vietnam immediately following his completion of basic training. Born in Lancaster, he was a member of St. Thomas Episcopal Church, and a graduate of Manheim Twp. High School with the class of 1968. Active in Boy Scouting, Myers held a rank of Life Scout, and was a member of the Order of the Arrow. He was also a former member of Scout Troops 102 and 140. Survivors, in addition to his father, include his mother, Mrs. Nancy S. Myers, Mount Gretna; a brother, Andrew, also of Mount Gretna; and his paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Nervin A. A Note from The Virtual Wall Eleven Marines and one sailor died when a Marine fire base at Phu Loc 6 (near An Hoa) was attacked and partially overrun by an enemy battalion. The sailor, HM2 David R.
