I remember Rick from the University of San Francisco and our days together in that wonderful city during the magic and pivotal days of the mid-60s. He was a year ahead of me, and as USF was a land-grant school, we were in Army ROTC together. Rick was my squad leader his junior (and my sophomore year), and was always a good fellow to be around. Like most of us, he was unsure about what was ahead after graduating from school and especially the distant war that waited for us new lieutenants. Oh, but he did enjoy his college days, and as a cheerleader for the University was always in the forefront of our atheletic events. If I say so myself, USF had a nationally ranked basketball team during a couple of our years there. I most recall Rick as cheerful, always very engaged in whatever was happening around us, and a shining example of the best in us as young men. While I don't know the circumstances of his death, I celebrate the fact of his life. Like anyone who was at the University of San Francisco during those troubled but marvelous days, I fondly recall this slight but fully alive young man. I miss him and consider my college experience better for having known him.

This is for my big brother Ricky! I miss you every day and think about your smile, those bright blue eyes and your sense of humor. But most of all I think of the sacrifice you gave for all of us! You inspired me to serve my country here on the home front by working in Law Enforcement. You were my best friend and inspiration. I thank God for having a big brother like you! I was lucky! I wish your nieces and nephews could have gotten to know you. I celebrate your life every day and especially on your birthday and feel so blessed by having the greatest brother a kid could have ever had in her life! Miss you lots!
With love,
