Richard was a friend of mine and I miss him even to this day. I left him in Feb 1967 after we had both extended our tour for three months and my tour was up. I was told of his death while at home on leave.

I served as a squad leader with Lima, 3d Bn, 3d Marines, and rotated back to the states in September 1966, and later heard from Cpl Jim Roth that Strahl was killed in action. I remember Strah from our days in the rear when we were on Monkey Mountain. He was a smiling, cheerful young man with bushy blonde hair. He was a fine young man, one of the best - and he brightened the lives of everyone around him.
