David began his tour in Vietnam on November 15, 1967 and was assigned to 2nd Platoon, C Company, 2/327th Infantry, 101st Airborne Division. His unit lost three men while operating in Lam Dong Province on 21 December 1967:
Another member of the platoon, SP4 David Leroy Glowczewskie, Sparr, Florida was critically wounded in the incident and was disabled from the loss of his legs from a mine blast. He was awarded two Bronze Stars for his time in Vietnam. After a long recovery overseas and at Valley Forge Hospital, Pennsylvania, he was killed in a single automobile accident near Citra Florida on 27 March 1969, two days before his 22nd birthday.
